As I've been learning and exploring project-based learning, I've come to love it more and more. I always felt that it aligned to my personal teaching pedagogy, but it seemed scary and daunting to me at the same time so I've avoided experimenting with it in my classroom too much. I was (still am, actually) afraid of the management of the kids, the role of facilitator being too difficult when I saw projects going off track, dealing with individual accountability, and creating projects that were appropriate.
In Module 3, we explored many projects and resources that exist out there and I began to feel some relief come over me as I saw many ways PBL can work inside a third grade classroom. There are some key elements that need to be included to make it successful, and those are pretty straight-forward. I also learned that it's okay to piggy-back on someone else's idea to start off with. That took some pressure off too. The more I explored, the more excited I got! It was exciting deciding on the project for my third graders. I took an idea I found, but then tweaked it just a bit so that it was more technologically involved. I recently became passionate about the idea of using Minecraft: Education Edition inside my classroom. Using Minecraft, students will be able to create the model of a tiny house. I began to build my PBL site and things started clicking and coming together. I'm so excited to continue exploring PBL!
